Dvorsky School History
Dvorsky College Preparatory school is located in the City of West Hollywood. West Hollywood is a densely populated city of over 36,000 people in 1.9 square miles. Most of West Hollywood’s residents rent apartments or condominiums. West Hollywood is also home to the most concentrated Russian-speaking immigrant population on the West Coast. Over 14% of West Hollywood’s households are Russian-speaking. Because many of West Hollywood’s Russian-speakers came to the US within the last 25 years, the population presents many unique challenges and cultural barriers in meeting their educational needs.
About 50% of DCP’s families live in West Hollywood. The rest of DCP’s families come from throughout Southern California including Tarzana, Sherman Oaks, Encino, Calabasas, and the Pacific Palisades. All of our parents are first generation Russian-speaking immigrants. They tend to hold college and graduate school degrees, and are from an upper income bracket. However, some of DCP’s parents are in moderate-income brackets.
DCP was founded in 2000 by DCP Principal, Dr. Elina Dvorskaya. Dr. Dvorskaya is an educator with over 45 years experience who was the Founder and Executive Director of the Ukraine’s first vocational college. In 1994, she emigrated from Kiev to Los Angeles. In 2003, Dr. Dvorskaya opened DCP at its present location. DCP has always been and plans to be based in West Hollywood.
